Since 2011, Okada has been filming wild horses inhabiting Yururi Island off the Nemuro Peninsula in Hokkaido, Japan.

印象派の絵のような馬が佇む草原の光景と、管楽器にも似て繊細な旋律を奏でる海風の声……。人影が絶えたユルリ島にいま残されているのは、ただそれだけです。いや、あえてそこに加えるなら、かつて島に生きた人々の記憶の痕跡でしょうか。それらが静かに重なり合って、そうしてほかのどこにもない幻の島、ユルリの時間は流れているのです。ここではそんな独特の時間を、映像と音楽、さらに幾篇かのソネット(14行詩)でイメージしています。さあ、幻の島へと続く水の道へ。旅人を導くのは、光、風、そして無音の声―。

1979年、北海道生まれ。東京在住。“写真界の芥川賞”といわれる木村伊兵衛写真賞の他、北海道文化奨励賞、東川賞特別作家賞、富士フォトサロン新人賞などを受賞。大阪芸術大学芸術学部写真学科卒業、東京工芸大学大学院芸術学研究科博士後期課程にて博士号取得（芸術学）。主な写真集に『1999』『MOTHER』『世界』『ataraxia』『I am』『Cord』『Platibe』などがある。作品は北海道立近代美術館、川崎市市民ミュージアム、東川町文化ギャラリーなどにパブリックコレクションされている。2011年から北海道根室半島沖にあるユルリ島に生息する野生馬の撮影を続けている。

Okada Atsushi was born in Hokkaido, Japan in 1979.After graduating with a degree from the Photography Department at the Osaka University of Arts, he obtained his Ph.D. in arts from the Department of Media Arts at Tokyo Polytechnic University’s Graduate School of Arts.In addition to the Kimura Ihei Photography Award—often called the "Akutagawa Prize of photography"—he has been awarded the Hokkaido Cultural Development Incentive Award, the Higashikawa Awards Special Photographer Award, the Fuji Photo Salon "The New Face Prize" and other awards.His work is housed in places like the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art, Kawasaki City Museum and Higashikawa Bunka Gallery.
